As an industry insider, i have decided to share the truth with my patients & what is the role of this new technology in current form. We embrace the new technology keeping in mind the interests of our patients who are at the centre of our all decision making process. Customer centric values is one of our core values of the organisation.
FLACS is used for making incisions in the cornea, removing anterior capsule of the cataract & making 4-8 cuts in the substance of the cataract.
Once this is done, patient is taken in the operation theatre where our age old phaco machine is used to emulsify & aspirate the cataract.
From manual cataract surgery with stitches to phaco machine, there is dramatic vow factor in fast recovery after the surgery
But with FLACS assisted phaco surgery, & time tested phaco surgery, there is no difference in the visual recovery & vow factor
With FLACS, you need to undergo incisions under one machine & than shift to normal OPERATION THEATRE for phaco emulsification , making 7 minute cataract procedure into 15-20 minute ordeal
Also, the technology doesn’t give you anything more with your visual recovery except perhaps adding a bomb to your surgery bill.
FLACS ASSISTED PHACO Surgery will cost you upwards of Rs 1 lakh for a Monofocal lens which will require you to wear a spectacle after the operation
Whereas you can get our time tested PHACO EMULSIFICATION cataract surgery with Progressive lens for 60k to 90k with no need to wear spectacles post surgery.
So at present , FLACS assisted phaco emulsification is being used as a marketing gimmick, touted as a robotic cataract surgery which is not the case, used as a tool to extract extra money for no real benefit to the patients
In the present form, FLACS ASSISTED CATARACT SURGERY IS not a win- win situation for the patients
